Name Changes for Theses, Dissertations and Graduate Projects
Students or former students who have authored a Drexel University thesis, dissertation, or graduate project may request an author name change for the online copy of the document posted in Drexel Research Discovery, the University's online repository. It is not necessary to specify a reason. Any reason is acceptable.
Requirements:
- The request must come from the author themselves and not a third party.
- An author must first change their name with Drexel University Office of the Registrar, following their regulations.
Procedure:
- Complete the name change through the Office of the Registrar.
- Send an email to archives@drexel.edu along with:
- Your correspondence with the Office of the Registrar showing that the name change is official with their office.
- An updated PDF of the thesis, dissertation, or graduate project that shows your current name. Only your name may be updated, which most frequently appears on the title page, vita page, and abstract page. You are only permitted to change your name within the bibliography if you have already completed a name change with the repository that maintains the cited reference.
- In the body of the email, please state your current name, your prior name, and the title of the document.
Important information:
- This only affects the online document in Drexel Research Discovery and any metadata associated with the document. If the document is also part of ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, then the author is responsible for submitting a separate request to ProQuest for a name change. Contact ProQuest at disspub@proquest.com.
- Metadata associated with the thesis, dissertation, or project will be updated to indicate that a name change has been made. The author’s prior name will not be included in the metadata, unless the author requests in writing that it be included.
- Completing the process of updating the repository can take time. For fastest service, please submit your request with complete and accurate documentation as soon as possible.
- If you have questions or special circumstances, contact archives@drexel.edu.
