Libraries Launches New Data Services Program September 14, 2016 On September 1st the Libraries launched a new Data Services program as part of its evolving activities within the Data and Digital Stewardship division. This new division, led by director Deb Morley, has migrated the work of the Libraries' former Research Data Services Support task force into a matrixed organization focusing on improving services and tools to help Drexel researchers effectively manage their research data output. Assisting Morley in leading the design and implementation of proactive outreach services to assist researchers with data management is Chris Badurek. He has assumed new responsibilities as the Data Services Librarian while continuing his role as Liaison for Earth and Natural Sciences. In addition, six other liaison librarians from the Academic Partnerships division will contribute their subject expertise to customize services and add data management to their consultations with Drexel faculty and graduate students. This team of liaison librarians includes: Abby Adamczyk (Life Sciences), Jay Bhatt (Engineering), Janice Masud-Paul (Health Sciences Research), Tim Siftar (Education, Computing & Informatics, Global Studies and Modern Languages), Kathleen Turner (Public Health) and a new Liaison Librarian for Business, once hired. The liaison librarians will join (part time) the Data Services Librarian and the staff in the three departments comprising the Data and Digital Stewardship division: Discovery Systems, Metadata Services and University Archives. These eleven system analysts, developers, metadata technicians, archivists and managers bring strong skills, experience and knowledge to build the infrastructure for preserving, describing, finding and sharing data and digital collections. The new Data Services program will assist researchers with developing and implementing their data management plans as well as track efforts in disciplines that are building knowledge and expertise to understand data types, formats, repositories and researcher needs. Liaison librarians will also develop and implement strategies for advancing data literacy by providing data-related instruction and participating in digital scholarship and data-related projects.
