Drexel Libraries Announces Strategic Reorganization of its Subject Librarian Team

Earlier this summer, the Drexel Libraries identified a reorganization of its subject librarian team as a top strategic priority. This reorganization builds on the work we started last fall to make the most of our resources and to leverage our strengths and experiences to support Drexel’s Academic Transformation.

Under the new structure, Drexel’s subject librarians now report to Marietta Dooley, who was recently appointed to a brand-new position of Head of Library Instruction. In this new role, Dooley will provide leadership and strategic direction for all library-related instruction provided by the Drexel Libraries. Her team will continue to be part of the Learning Support Services Department, led by Katherine Fischer, Director, Learning Support Services. The Learning Support Services Department also includes the Libraries’ Access Services Team.

Additionally, each college and school at Drexel now has a dedicated subject librarian who serves as the first point of contact for any library-related questions or services. Drexel subject librarians build relationships with faculty and students to understand and support their teaching and learning needs and connect them with relevant library services and expertise. Subject librarians also provide research support and instruction, help identify and use appropriate information resources, and collaborate with academic partners to integrate library expertise and resources into courses, curricula, and other academic initiatives.

These changes will improve coordination, clarity, and impact of the resources and services the Libraries provide, while ensuring scalable and consistent support for teaching and learning across academic units. This includes an expanded communications and engagement strategy to introduce students and faculty to library expertise, services, and resources throughout their academic journey, and to increase awareness of experiential learning and instructional support offerings.
