Drexel Libraries & University Archives Hosts Opening Event for 100th Anniversary Exhibit, "Celebrating a Century of The Triangle"

On April 14, more than 40 students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered in the W. W. Hagerty Library for the official unveiling of the exhibit Celebrating a Century of The Triangle, Drexel's Student Newspaper: 1926 to 2026.

The two-part exhibit was curated by a team of current newspaper staffers, members of The Triangle Alumni Advisory Board, and staff from the Drexel University Libraries and the Drexel University Archives. It includes display cases of historical editions of the newspaper and a series of free-standing panels that illustrate the importance of student journalism and the unique ways in which students reported on campus, local and global events over the last 100 years.

“Student journalism is incredibly necessary. We keep our ears to the street and we make sure students know what’s happening around them,” said Kiara Santos ‘23, former Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, during the event. “The fact that [The Triangle] has remained an independent, student-run newspaper for 100 years can’t be understated. Thank you for helping us keep it running.”

The exhibit unveiling included remarks from three other project partners: Pedro Raposo, DPhil, University Librarian and Associate Vice-Provost for Libraries, Archives, and Collections; Paulie Loscalzo ’26, current Triangle Editor-in-Chief; and Richard Lampert, who served as editor-in-chief of the paper from 1968 to 1969 and is the current chair of The Triangle Alumni Advisory Board.

During the reception, the Drexel University Archives also hosted a small pop-up exhibition featuring archival items related to past Drexel presidents as part of President Merlo’s inauguration week festivities.

The pop-up exhibit, which was on display inside the University Archives’ Reading Room, included poems and a watercolor painting by James Creese, a letter inaugural president James A. MacAlister wrote to Booker T. Washington, photographs of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin’s visit to Drexel, and more.
