Hot Topic Reading List: ChatGPT & Artificial Intelligence Systems
By now you’ve probably heard about chatbots and other AI-enhanced tools. While these programs have been around for a while, they have been making headlines ever since OpenAI released ChatGPT, its new chatbot, in November. This new chatbot has been heralded by some as the best piece of AI software ever made because of its ability to do everything from creating software to writing papers.
Educators in particular are concerned about the implications of an advanced tool like ChatGPT, with some secondary schools blocking access to the site and researchers and institutions of higher education wondering what tools like this will mean for teaching and research—and if there’s an opportunity for good.
There is a lot of information and opinions out there about chatbots and ChatGPT specifically. That’s whyDrexel librarians compiled a list of resources organized by broad, interconnecting subject areas, which they have personally found to be interesting, educational, and thought-provoking.
We hope this list of books, journal articles, blog posts, videos, and social media content—which is certainly not comprehensive—will serve as a starting point to raise your awareness and foster further exploration and discussion about the use of chatbots and AI in education and our everyday lives.
This is a rapidly developing area of technology. Libraries staff will maintain a running list of relevant resources via Zotero, a reference management tool. Please contact us at library@drexel.edu to recommend resources for inclusion on this list.
