Drexel Libraries Announces truth* Exhibit Events & Programming

September 10, 2024

Following the launch of the truth* at Drexel exhibition earlier this year, the Drexel Libraries has announced its fall 2024 schedule of companion events and programming.

Created in partnership with the National Liberty Museum, truth* at Drexel highlights different ideas, questions, and debates about truth—how it is defined, by whom, and for what purpose—as well as actionable strategies for exploring those concepts. The exhibition is a reimagining of the NLM’s original truth* exhibition for the Drexel community.

The Libraries also expanded the truth* exhibit over the summer, adding more visuals and activities like posters and tabletop activities to help visitors navigate and engage in these critical—and often difficult--conversations.

The truth* at Drexel exhibit includes table-top conversation starters, with tips to help you have difficult discussions. What do you think? Is a hotdog a sandwich?

The truth* at Drexel exhibit and all companion events are free and open to members of the Drexel community and the public. Registration is required for most events. More information is listed below or visit the individual event pages for additional details.

Fake news isn’t new, but new digital tools make it easier to spread quickly. To spot a fake, you need to be able to dissect breaking news, evaluate partisan content, and use critical thinking skills. Given the sheer volume of news available, how can the average person separate fact from fiction?

Join the Drexel Libraries for a film screening of Fake: Searching for Truth in the Age of Misinformation, a PBS documentary that helps viewers learn to discern fact from fiction in news reports, identify fake news, and evaluate the biases of real news using common sense, critical thinking skills, and an understanding of universal standards of journalism.

Following the screening, Drexel Professor Mary Jean Tecce DeCarlo, EdD, will lead a discussion about the ”fake news” phenomenon and the role of information literacy in the fight against it.

Thursday, Oct. 31

Misinformation and the circulation of fake news make open access all the more important. Accessible, peer-reviewed information is essential because it can create pathways to more equitable knowledge sharing. By providing research and counterpoints to misinformation, we can help to curb the proliferation of misinformation.

This October, join the Drexel Libraries as we celebrate Open Access Week and help our communities understand the benefits of making research and knowledge openly available to all.
