Open Access Week 2024 – Get Involved

September 27, 2024

The Drexel University Libraries is proud to celebrate International Open Access Week from October 21 – 27, 2024.

International Open Access (OA) Week is a great opportunity for the academic and research community to discuss the benefits and challenges of OA, exchange new ideas with colleagues, and work toward better knowledge production systems. This year’s theme—"Community over Commercialization”—continues the call to prioritize approaches to open scholarship that serve the best interests of public and the academic community.

The Drexel Libraries is a strong supporter of Open Access and strives to create a more open and equitable scholarly landscape. We actively work to increase access to Drexel research and to make it easier and more affordable for Drexel authors to publish Open Access. Over the last year, we have increased our Open Access publishing discounts with journal publishers to reduce the amount authors must pay when they choose to publish OA. We now have agreements with eight publishers and have saved Drexel authors nearly $500k since January 2024.

This year, celebrate Open Access Week with the Drexel Libraries and our expert librarians during our Introduction to Open Access workshop. Get a practical overview of Open Access, including the benefits of OA, types of publishing models, how to identify predatory publishers and how to publish OA for free.
