Celebrate Pride Month with the Drexel Libraries

June 6, 2024

June is Pride Month, a time to honor the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals have had on history. The Drexel Libraries proudly supports LGBTQ+ Pride this month and throughout the year, and we’ve compiled a list of resources and events that support academic research and learning.

Pride Month commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, the tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. The first Pride march was held on June 28, 1970, in New York City, one year after Stonewall.

Today, Pride is celebrated around the world and includes parades, festivals, workshops, and memorials to those who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS.

The Drexel Libraries’ featured resources and events represent the diversity of LGTBQ+ experiences and seek to amplify those voices, experiences, and history. Below you’ll find links to resources like fiction, memoirs, handbooks, databases, and academic research—all of which are available year-round through our website. You’ll also find information about local and national events and workshops, features on key figures in the LGBTQ+ movement, and much more.

We hope you will join us in celebrating the rich and diverse history of the LGBTQ+ community, both here at Drexel, in Philadelphia, and around the world.
