Drexel Libraries Joins Exclusive Resource Sharing Program to Provide Streamlined Access to Digital Resources
January 25, 2023
For the second year in a row, the Drexel Libraries has earned an exclusive membership to join the OCLC Express program through continued dedication to sharing resources and performing at the top 10% of libraries who are part of OCLC’s WorldShare interlibrary loan service (ILL).
OCLC is a global library organization that provides shared technology services, original research, and community programs for its membership and the library community at large. The Express Program streamlines the digital lending process, enabling digital resource sharing among a select group of libraries that have turnaround times for lending digital materials of 18 hours or less.
Participating libraries pool and share resources, knocking down preexisting institutional and technological barriers that hindered libraries’ ability to serve their communities. More than 1,000 libraries from around the world are actively participating in the Express program based on their ability to deliver articles and other digital resources within this timeframe. The OCLC Resource Sharing Team regularly reviews turnaround times, contacts participants not meeting program expectations, and adds or removes participants so that the goals of the program are maintained.
“The Drexel Libraries is proud to be part of OCLC's Express digital delivery program,” said Lynda Sadusky, Librarian for Resource Sharing at Drexel. “We are committed to consistently delivering digital resources to clients at Drexel (and from other organizations) within 18 hours or less, and our average turnaround time is usually lower—around 10 hours. As an Express program member, we will continue to demonstrate our commitment to service and consistently meet or exceed delivery expectations. This membership is an active step in the pursuit to expand Drexel’s access to the world’s information and reduce library costs.”
The Drexel Libraries thanks the Resource Sharing Team for all their hard work and commitment to delivering resources to the Drexel community and beyond as quickly as possible.
