Have you noticed that it is quicker and quieter to enter the W. W. Hagerty Library this term? This August, the entrance and adjoining area were updated to respond to the bottleneck in going through the old security gate and the annoying noise it made. This update also refreshed the adjacent front corner as an attractive place to work quietly with natural lighting.

The upgrade in the entrance has removed some barriers to access; the wider security gate now accommodates ADA (American Disability Act) requirements for wheelchair access. Having two lanes also offers a speedier and quieter entrance into the library.

In addition, replaced furniture in the adjacent northeast corner of the ground floor accommodates quick drop-in time in the Library. Perched on one of the red stools at the tall table facing the glass entrance offers a vantage point for students 'to see and be seen.' A set of swivel chairs gathered around a low table and a connected curve of soft seating configure this refreshed area to become a perfect spot to do some quick study in between classes or while waiting for a friend. In addition, individual club chairs for more solitary reflection replaced the building's original couches along the window wall. The new seats also have pull-up tables for easy use of laptops, tablets and books.

The Libraries continues to experiment with providing furnishings and diverse environments that inspire students to focus on their learning.
