Laptop & Portable Power Charger Lending Kiosks
Drexel University’s first laptop kiosk was installed in the Dragons’ Learning Den in the W. W. Hagerty Library on December 4, 2012. The kiosk provides a 24-hour solution to students who want to work on projects and assignments or study at the library late into the night.
The Drexel Libraries worked with LaptopsAnytime to develop a customized laptop kiosk that holds 12 computers, which was later modified with an extension unit to offer 30 MacBook Pro computers. Drexel was the first institution to use 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops and the first to offer laptop lending in Philadelphia.
In August 2018, an updated kiosk with 12 MacBook Pro laptops and 24 portable power chargers was installed in the Dragons’ Learning Den. In March 2022, the Libraries replaced the outdated MacBook Pro computers with new Dell laptops.
Laptop & Portable Power Charger Lending Kiosks
The Drexel Libraries provides access to 12 Dell laptops and 24 portable power chargers through lending kiosks located in the Dragons' Learning Den (W. W. Hagerty Library). The kiosks in the Dragons' Learning Den are available 24/7. Any member of the Drexel community with a valid DragonCard can borrow laptops and portable chargers from the kiosks for use within the space for up to five hours.
- The laptop & portable power charger lending kiosks are available anytime the spaces are open.
- Laptops and portable chargers in the kiosk are available for up to five hours.
- Laptop and portable charger use is limited to the W. W. Hagerty Library.
- The Drexel Libraries does not provide cables. Users must bring their own cables to charge devices using the portable power chargers.
- Borrowers must agree to the Terms of Service at checkout.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I check out a laptop or portable power charger?
A: Simply swipe your Drexel DragonCard ID to check out a device from the kiosk, and follow the prompts on the touch screen.
Q: Who can borrow a laptop or portable power charger?
A: Drexel University students, faculty and staff with Drexel ID who are in good standing may borrow a laptop or power charger from the kiosk. Excessive fines or outstanding overdue items will block borrowing of laptops and portable chargers.
Q: Can I charge my mobile phone or personal laptop with the portable power chargers?
A: Yes. These heavy duty portable power chargers can power cell phones, tablets and most 13-, 14- and 15-inch laptops via standard 110V outlet and USB.
Q: Does the Libraries provide cables or do I need to bring my own?
A: At this time, the Libraries does not provide cables needed to charge a laptop, mobile phone, tablet or other device. Please bring your own cables to power your devices using one of the Libraries’ portable power chargers.
Q: Do I need to charge the equipment after I am done using them?
A: No. The kiosk acts as a charging station and will charge each laptop and portable power charger once it is returned. After a laptop is returned, it cannot be borrowed again until the personal information is cleared and the battery reaches at least 70%.
Q: What do I do if the laptop or power charger is not functioning properly?
A: Please return the laptop or power charger to the kiosk and check out another device if available. If no other device is available, please report the issue to the Service Desk.
Q: Where can I take the laptop and power charger?
A: The kiosk laptops and portable chargers are for library use only and cannot be taken out of the W. W. Hagerty Library.
Q: How do I connect to the wireless network?
A: Log into the laptop using your Drexel username and password. Once logged in, the laptop will automatically connect to the DragonFly3 network.
Q: Do laptops come with any programs?
A: Yes. the laptops in the kiosk provide a variety of software for clients, including the Microsoft Office Professional Suite.
Q: What happens if I lose or damage a laptop or power charger?
A: Borrowers are financially responsible for lost or stolen computers and power chargers. Damage or loss charges will be applied to the student's University bill.
Q: Will my personal information stay on the computer after I’m done using it?
A: No! Laptops are cleared of all personal information when they are returned to the kiosk. This process only takes a few minutes. Laptops cannot be borrowed again until all personal information has been cleared.
Q: Do I have to sign a Laptop or Portable Power Charger Agreement form?
A: Yes, you will be prompted to agree to the terms and conditions at the kiosk when checking out a laptop or portable charger.
Q: Is there a late fee?
A: Yes. The late fee for laptops is $5.00 per hour late. The late fee for portable power chargers is $5.00 per hour late.

- The kiosk vendor is LaptopsAnytime and ChargersAnytime, based in Dallas, TX.
- The kiosk is equipped with a built-in camera for security and identification.
- When a user checks out a machine, the Kiosk will dispense the available laptop or portable charger with the longest battery life.
